Interactive Walkway -
Brighton to Vienna - Oct 2003
Groups of children visited this
exhibition at the Fabrica art gallery and worked with sound artist Pendle
Poucher.
The walkway of planks was
linked via the Internet to an identical walkway in Vienna, so that whenever
anyone stepped on a plank
in Brighton the corresponding plank in Vienna also
moved down (and vice versa). In the video you can see planks apparently
moving
of their own accord as people in Vienna walk around on their walkway. In the
second half of the video, you can see our
children trying to 'send' interesting
patterns of walkway movements to Vienna.

After visiting the exhibition children worked with Pendle to create their own version of the walkway. Children relayed instructions via walkie-talkies to others in the playground, who jumped around on numbered chalk 'walkways'. |
